CSS Styles that Work with Email

email look the same in all clientsI’ve been working on my email templates for the past few days, and even after a few hours of trial and error, I wasn’t able to get my newsletter to look the same in all major email clients – Ms Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Live Mail.

Frustrated, but remembering the principle of “Ready, Fire, Aim”, I queued the email to be sent out anyway. Even though I knew the borders of my design would be cut off in Gmail, at least the message is still readable and that is what is important.

Today, I thought back at what I did yesterday and I realized I was kinda stupid  I searched Google about CSS styles that work with email, and the solution fell right under my nose. Heh.

Anyway, if you are experiencing issue getting your email broadcasts to work well on all clients, here are two excellent resources.

Resource 1: Campaign monitor has an unbelievable list of desktop and web clients, put together with a list of all the css style tags you could possibly use in email, and they’ve put everything together is a beautiful table in this guide to CSS support in Email.

Resource 2: Mark Wyner sharess from A List Apart about his experience with CSS in email, and how to overcome the potential challenges.
