3 reasons why you should inject humor in your blog posts

funny.jpgI think one very powerful way to make your content interesting to read is to really inject humor in your blog posts – and here are 3 great reasons why you should do that!

Reason #1: Humor lets your personality show

We’ve heard so much about being authentic and transparent in blog posts. I think every blogger who can write a decent post has a sense of humor (at least, in real life), and very often the way we phrase our jokes shows our personality. While blog posts do not have to be wholly funny and smack filled with smilies  (although I admit mine often is!), not covering up your humor provides an opportunity for your personality to show.

Come on, I know you are a darn funny person, so stop being selfish and let it show, share some laughter!

Reason #2: Humor lightens the mood

Sometimes on our blogs we discuss some moderately serious issues. In the indulgence and focus of getting the message across, one may tend to sound too serious, making the blog post sound like my lecturers back in my school days (man! they ARE so serious and boring!)

Humor makes the topic lighter, and it resonates with the other humans reading the blog. Readers will be aware that ultimately what they are reading is the opinion of one person, and are less likely to search for their high blood pressure pills after reading your serious blog post.

Reason #3: Humor makes your post stand out from your readers’ 200 blog feed subscriptions

Most bloggers have at least 200++ blog feeds subscribed in their reader… and reading updates everyday can be a pretty tedious task (hey hey, I understand how you feel dudes ), especially on a “bad hair blog day”. Humor puts some fun into reading this post… it makes your readers smile, and more importantly, it helps you to stand out and be different from the other 199 feeds. 🙂

Have you taken time to read your own blog posts to see how serious they can get? Start today! … and hey, do drop me a note when you’ve got your funny post up. I’m desperate for laughter.

  1. Another amazing insight and one which I always agreed with! xiaxue, mr brown, miyagi and kenny sia got to where they did largely because of their funny (or controversial which is another traffic attractor) posts. My own personal style is more of a dry wit and deprecating humour when I blog about more lifestyle topics.

  2. Thanks Walter. Yeah you are so right on. I think the majority of the popular blogs in Singapore are popular because of their satrical humour! Heh… but I really think it is really a skill though, to entertain with words 😉
