I got this from the Problogger.net post. He said that he analyzed that Technorati top 100 blogs, and the average time that these blogs have been around is 33.8 MONTHS!

Technorati top 100 takes timeOh my. I have barely started 2 months. Never mind. At least, this blog is 2 months old. I only have 31.8 months more to go! Wheeee!

Alright… let’s get serious.

The top blog on Technorati, Engadget.com, had 26868 blogs linking to it… (after this post, it will be 26869!) Xiaxue has 3613! She’s ranked 77th!

How many do I have today? 9! Wonderful!

I think I have to draw the same conclusions that Darren Rowse, author of ProBlogger.net did:

What do I take away from it?

1. It reminds me to be patient and to take a long term approach to my blogging
2. It inspires me with the reminder that some blogs do rise quickly through the ranks

Take it slow and keep posting. Afterall, which other profession in the world lets you stay at home, read and post your own comments and earn money? A programmer might take 2 years to get to a project manager level, and another couple of years before he becomes a systems analyst. I think if we put in the same amount of effort as the programmer did in promoting and publicising our blogs – we’ll earn AT LEAST twice as much, and I’m talking about passive income here!

One point to note is that there are many many many blogs out there who just do aggregating of other’s posts. Will they get anywhere? I don’t know, but I personally won’t be inspired to come back and read these excerpts. I’d rather do a Technorati search, if I wanted a list of posts related to a particular topic. The powerful blogs are the ones with original content, with that charismatic personal voice that sucks (for the lack of a better word) readers back every day to read your content.

So bloggers out there, especially those who’ve just started (like me!) – keep posting, keep learning, embrace new technology and you will get there. Build one big interesting blog, focus focus focus!
