If you had 10 minutes of Internet access left

Internet AccessLast Friday, I didn’t leave a message before I left for Malaysia to facilitate the seminar, because I was expecting that I would have time and Internet access over the weekend to continue to update my blog. However what happened was that the Wi-Fi access was not very good, and I had little time.

In fact, I woke up at 5:30am before the seminar started and had a super early breakfast, hoping that I could use the time to get back in touch with the online world, update my blog… but I wasn’t able to.

(Oops. Now you know how addicted I am to this blog, and how much I love you people dropping by and chatting with me  )

So I was wondering… what would YOU choose to do, if you were in the same scenario as me? What if you were on a trip that you expected good Internet access but it was terribly slow, or you only had 10 minutes to spare?

Assuming you only have time to do one of these. Would you:

  1. Check and attempt to reply your email
  2. Post replies on your blog comments
  3. Post a new blog post, saying that you are away and you are unable to reply to emails and blog comments until you are back in town?

Or would you have just left everything there and take that 10 minutes to sleep?

  1. If I have 10 mins left, I would choose option 3. Why I choose 3 is because if people do come to my blog, they are able to see where I am and what I am currently doing. I can reach out to the mail while the previous 2 choice, it is a personal issue and restricted amount of reach to the reader.

  2. Hey John, thanks!

You know what? I felt I would have chosen 3 too… but when I faced the situation in Malaysia, I told myself to reply to my comments first, then draft a post!

Heh. The replies of the comments eventually went through, but not the post!

  3. Hi Kian Ann,

this is the first time I’m visiting your blog. And you certainly provide many useful tips on blogging.

Anyway, I guess I will choose option 3 as well. Just leave a post and it will serve to explain my situation to my readers.

    Regards & God Bless,

    Calvin

  4. I would have to choose door #4 .. going back to sleep. But, it’s a personal thing for me. I am NOT a fan of people who say “I’m busy, so I won’t be blogging for a while” or “I’m away on vacation, so I won’t be blogging for a while” .. it’s like a waste of a post i.m.h.o. and also a risk telling thieves that your house is vacant and come break in!

By all means .. tell people after the fact that you weren’t able to blog as you only had 10 minutes … once you are back to blogging. And next time? Pre-postings so nobody knows the difference that you were gone at all~ 😀
