Web Analytics

Yesterday morning, I woke up at 3:45am after just 2.5 hours of sleep to attend a webinar “Transforming Google Analytics Into Business Analytics” held by Ian Lurie of Conversation Marketing.

I’m glad I did. Ian was brilliant. In the short hour, the 2 key points I got out of from Ian were these:

#1 You have to know how much one visitor to your website is worth.

Only then, will you will be able to make a logical decision whether each marketing campaign is working right for you. If you calculate that each visitor is worth $0.70, and you are spending $1.00 per click on Google Adwords, something is wrong.

#2 You need to know what to measure before you step into the Google Analytics.

Don’t let the Google Analytics drive you. Instead, you need to use it as a tool to drive your stats.

Google Analytics can be daunting. I’ve to admit, I was (and still am) daunted by the functionality they have in there. However, it is essential to know what you want to achieve, then use Google Analytics to achieve it.

Thanks Ian.

Update: The webinar by Ian is up for viewing now.
