5 surefire ways to market your blog… and its all free!
I’d like to return to basics again, and today I’ll focus on the 5 simple ways you can use to market your blog.
Write and submit articles
Article marketing is one sure way you can get traffic to your blog. All you have to do is to write, and submit your article to article directories like ezineArticles.com or GoArticles.com. When you do so, remember to leave a link to your blog using the Author Resource Box.
Article marketing does not bring you immediate results, but if you do it consistently - maybe 5 articles every week, consistently for a period of say 6 months. You will find out that it is one of the best ways to drive consistent traffic to your blog!
Leave comments or trackbacks on other blogs
Reading other blogs, leaving comments and trackbacks are part and parcel of being in the blogosphere - lets put it frankly, even the best writers experience a writing block once in a while, and we all gather inspiration to write from other blogs, other articles and from the news.
So if you want to blog, reading other blogs should be one of your “daily deliberate actions”
… and since you are already reading other blogs, why not, spend 15 seconds more at each blog leaving a comment to the author. This helps both the author of the blog, as well as you. The author gets more content on their blog, and you get a link back!
Participate in forums
Forums are another source of wonderful traffic. Again, I’d be frank - its is really hard to just go into the forums and identify a thread and say “oh, this thread is going to be hot, so I’ll post here” It just doesn’t work this way.
What we do, is just go into forums and participate. Focus on helping other solve problems.
If the solution requires a very long elaboration, you can post an article on your blog and then post a link to your blog from the forum.
Submit your site to blog or website directories
Some SEO practitioners say that submitting to directories are getting less and less useful in establishing your ranking and traffic. However, if you have the time to do so, why not? While there are services out there to submit your site for you, I’d actually recommend that you do it yourself.
Set a target to just submit to 10 directories a week. Now, like articles, these won’t bring you immediate traffic, but when done consistently over a period of time, you can and will get very very consistent traffic.
Write on a search trend
There are a million and one keywords which you can target for, and some of these keywords have a search trend. For example, if you go to google trends and look for “Singapore F1″, you will see a spike in searches recently, because of the recent activity in Singapore.
I can foresee this trend coming again every year, come next year September, just write 3 articles optimized on “Singapore F1″ you can guarantee you will get some traffic!

Hi Kian Ann,
I am very impressed that you share so much information with the public with regards to internet marketing and I really appreciate it. I dedicate my time to assist people in need and have set up a blog to help the man on the street. Currently there is a couple that needs help and I hope you are kind enough to do a link to this article blog to help them reach out to as many Singaporeans as possible as this is a very real problem that drivers in Singapore face. I am however, very bad at IT but struggling to reach out to more people so as to benefit all low and middle class Singaporeans. Thank you Kian Ann.
