Where are you, dear reader?

Have you ever received a blog comment that is a genuine enquiry, but you need to know where the reader is located, so that you can better relate to him? You know he is not a spammer because he hasn’t left any fishy looking URLs, or boast his “spectacular” achievements and such.

Here is how you can find out where that particular reader is based.

1. In your WordPress comments log, find out the IP address of the commenter. Copy the IP address that you want to track.

2. Head on to this IP address locator page, paste the IP address on the “IP Address to locate” textbox and submit! Wallah! The details of the IP address is shown!

I’ve always used a proxy IP, and most people I know also do so I wouldn’t believe most of the results.
Their are a couple of really good IP address locators and some of them are a waste of time, try searching your own IP if its accurate your pritty much good to go.

    Hey Mike,

Well you are right that many ISPs provide proxy servers, and this is the location of the server, not the client itself.

However, I would guess in most cases, the proxy server is in the same country or area as the client too, so well, I think its still good.

Of course, there are people out there who would deliberately hide or cloak their IP, and there is nothing much these IP address locators can do abou these. :)

    Hi Kian Ann,

I didn’t know we can do that. By the way you can always this reader of yours which is me. Do not need to locate me using IP address. :)
