Make an Impact in Your Presentations

I realise that bloggers are do very well in establishing credibility and authority in the field that you blog in. When your blog starts to move up in the popularity scale, you will realise that not only will you get offers from people for interviews, invited as guest bloggers, but also asked to share your experience in speaking events.

On that note, one of the most powerful ways to market a blog (that many people overlook!) is through word of mouth and through the words you speak everyday. Serious. When you are able to talk to someone in person, the interaction level is higher, and so will be your influence.

Yesterday night I was out to celebrate the graduation of many of trainers who were before me, in the Certified Professional Trainers (CPT) course, held by Quest Consulting. I am yet to graduate though, but I will be completing my assignments over the weekend.

Yikes, I’m just 2 days late for this year’s graduation ceremony.

Anyway, the CPT alumni is organizing a one day program to help people learn how to make an impact in their presentations. The program is only SDG$380 and will be held in the Singapore NUSS Guild House on the 17th of January 2006 (Next Wednesday!). The trainers conducting the workshop are a really distinguished panel of speakers, including the master trainer of CPT himself, Mr KC See. I would really encourage anyone who want to improve their presentation skills to sign up!

Make an impact in your presentations

As the quote on the flyer goes - “Brilliance, without the capability to communicate or present it, is worth little in an an organization”

That is so true in today’s world. You simply need to learn how to write and speak well.

For details, you can get in touch with the staff from Quest at +65 6255 2968, or drop me a comment and I will be glad to forward your questions to the people in charge.

By the way, who says you can’t sell stuff on your blog? :) I think I can sell anything, as long as I remain transparent and authentic to my readers. I know I’m responsible for my recommendations. This workshop is definitely a must grab!

    Hey John,

This is the first time the CPT alumni is organising this one day event. I personally attended the full CPT course itself, and the investment is well worth it.

In fact, as I type this, I’m over in Malaysia facilitating the program :)

    Catch up later.

Agree that any kind of professional in marketing needs to eventually learn how to speak and present. I myself will be speaking at an upcoming talk at SIM for MArketing Executives.

I find that one of the best resources online for delivering pitch perfect presentations that make an impact is presentationzen. Laurence Lessig, Guy Kawasaki, and Steve Jobs are also masters in the craft.

    Thanks CoolInsider,

I think not only people in marketing but literally every working person should learn to stand up and speak, or deliver a presentation. You will never know when your boss is going to ask you to present a report!

It may be a little unfortunate but it is so real - that as good as a person can be, you need to be able to express your capability well, in order to prove yourself in this world.

It is important to note that such group seminars can only take one so far. Improving as a public speaker takes practice — lots of it — and these come-one, come-all seminars typically offer little opportunity for practice.

The best advice I can give is to begin with low risk presentations. Speak wherever and whenever you can at those types of venues. Eventually, it will be time to graduate to bigger things.

Just be aware that sitting in a stuffy conference room with lots of other people does not qualify as active learning.

Thanks Ed, and what your insights and thoughts are great. Public speaking or training is really like riding a bicycle - there’s nothing like actually doing it, and you improve as you go along.

However, I think it is also important that we gather tips from the masters, and get people to evaluate us and give us feedback every time we attempt to do better. ;)
