I just got home from the eOneNet’s Internet Marketing Blog Seminar held at Hotel Rendezvous today, and I’m ready and excited to share with you what I have learnt!

Like what Harrace commented, the blog seminar is really targeted at people who have no prior experience on the Internet, and I’d say, for that target, the short 3 hour seminar did really well. Fione Tan, CEO of eOneNet is also a very sincere trainer, and I think she really excels and stands out by speaking the language of the locals in Singapore.

Anyway, that didn’t stop me from learning anything. I observed, I learned, I revised what I know, and I made friends – that’s a wonderful day to spend today, considering I slept less than an hour since 2pm yesterday. Working on this blog really excites me, and I just go on and on and on!

Here’s a picture of myself (left), Fione (middle) and Ken (right). Ken was the guy sitting next to me during the seminar, and he also has some experience in blogging and Internet marketing, having attended Derek Gehl’s recently bootcamp right in Singapore. Check out his Bichon Frise Dog Blog.

So, did I achieve my objective of knowing at least 5 more full-time-blogger-wannabes? Well, not really… but I made other good contacts whom I believe can collaborate for future Internet Marketing projects. So I guess I’m the only full-time-blogger-wannabe? heh.

So, what was the session about and what did I learn?

The majority of the contents of the seminar were more or less a review for me, but “repetition is the mother of skill” as what Anthony Robbins said, so a review is as good!

The session started with an overview of the doing business on the Internet, about blogging and the benefits of blogging. Blogs have originated from personal diaries and evolved so much, that even some of the Fortune 500 companies are blogging today. It is a means for instant publishing, and freedom of expression not only using text, but also through podcasts and videos.

The key focus of the seminar was on the 7 step process to build a blog and make money.

  1. Develop ideas through your passion, hobbies or skills
  2. Research the market for keywords and identify a niche market (you can find some tools to do this in my SEO toolbox)
  3. Select a keyword rich domain name
  4. Create the blog either free, with Blogger or Wordpress.com, or using your self hosted using WordPress.org. There are advantages and disadvantages of each… and of course there are other platforms apart from WordPress if you prefer.
  5. Identify your USP
  6. Monetize using services like Google Adsense, Chitika MiniMalls, Affiliate programs, or by selling your own product.
  7. Drive massive traffic to your site, through SEO, PPC, community groups, viral marketing, email marketing and such

I guess I shall not go too detailed here, or I’ll continue typing for another 5 hours. There is so much to learn for each individual step! If you are interested, you might want to check out the seminar. I hope they still have places for the session on 1st December.

But that’s not all I’ve learned. I’ve learned from the new friends I’ve met, about article marketing, about SEO, and about getting opt ins and what is the reason stopping people from getting started! Wonderful!

All in all, I felt that the seminar was great especially for people who wanted to get started with Internet Marketing, they could have made it a little longer to at least show the participants better demonstrations of blogging on Blogger and Wordpress.
