Lasting across changes in Search Engine algorithms

I read this from Just Search today regarding the fact that search engines are changing.

Search engines are changing, they have to so that they can return what they feel is the most relevant website for a given search phrase. Google coop and social book marking websites will encourage search engines to change as well as some friendly competition from Google, MSN and Yahoo.

So how does this affect your search engine optimization campaign?

Search EngineI think a real SEO expert is one that can optimize a website to stay high in authority and rankings, regardless of the changes in the algorithms and stuff in the search engines. To be frank, I think SEO should be easy. Really. Publish articles or content on the topic of interest, right from your heart, and do everything you SHOULD do, as if you were just publishing a website or blog! Nothing more!

A lot of Internet Marketers out there strive to get to the top of the rankings of major search engines, and they think hard and long and spend time and effort thinking of how to “cheat” the search engines though cloaking techniques, though spamming of alternate tags, meta keywords, hidden or small text, and everything like that… but think about it… Is this what Search Engines really want?

True enough, these people may be able to cheat the Search Engines for once, maybe yes, long enough for them to make a quick buck (this is ugly isn’t it), but is this really what we call SEO?

I one wrote on SEO being a school of thought, it is a way of thinking. Its thinking of how to be friendly to search engines, not tricking them! Dirty tactics are going to work for a short while, but they are not going to last.

So, search engines are changing, but remember, the ultimate aim of a search engine is to bring relevant results for a search phrase. This will never change (if not they will not be called search engines, right?) So how do you rank high? Duh! Provide relevant and truthful content in your blog or website! Do this, and there is nothing to panic no matter how search engine algorithms change.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I used to be worried about “optimizing” my site for SE’s and keyword density etc. but have changed my tune. Relevant content is king. If you have a website make sure that the content is actually about the topic of your website and that the content is original and informative. If search engines do their job correctly they should return results from only websites with the most relevant information and not sites that are “optimized.”

Thanks Andrew for you affirmation! Well its good that there is a core group of bloggers and SEO specialists that believe in this.

The unfortunate thing is that currently, some of these “dirty tricks” still work, resulting in a lot of spam. Well… lets hope the big 3 SEs will develop technology powerful enough to dust away all the junk!
