WordPress, not only a blogging engine, but a CMS!
I have been playing around with the codes behind WordPress for a couple of months now, and I’m starting to realise that this set of open source codes is really a powerful system! Now, I would recommend you to use WordPress not only for blogging but to build any kind of websites that you have in mind! It is really a full blown CMS now!
While I still can’t see how to tweak this blog engine system until it is like Joomla!, it can help very much to build websites for companies - with a couple of pages which a non technical user can just update from the web.
Of course, I haven’t had the time to play around and develop any plug-ins for WordPress yet, and I would want to dive into that real soon. I don’t really like the idea of plug-ins, not because they are not useful, but because, having migrated from the 1.XX to 2.XX version of WordPress, I have experienced some annoying difficulties upgrading the plugins.
Sometimes the plugins also require you to update some of the codes, and after the upgrade the blogging engine, you need to edit the code again, and again and again… which is quite irritating at times.
Well, so much for WordPress now. My point is, once you are familiar with the installation and the template tags, it can really get a site up and running quick, not only for blog sites but for so many other things as well! Of course, I won’t deny there are professional CMS Web Design solution providers that have written lots of plug-ins and extensions for Joomla!, making it better than ever.
I guess I won’t compare WordPress to Joomla!, since they are built for two different purposes, and each have their own specialties! In my humble opinion, of course WordPress still can’t take on Joomla! as a CMS, and neither can Joomla! take on WordPress as a blog engine (even though we can essentially build blogs with Joomla! too). ![]()
